With the first season of Abu Dhabi 3×3 Basketball Tour near the corner, we want to make you familiar with the international rules of this discipline. We start today a daily column called “Rule of the day” and we will take through each important regulation.
We will start, of course, with the very beginning, which is the coin flip, the way you star any game of 3×3 basketball.
A coin flip shall determine which team gets the first possession. The team that wins the coin flip can either choose to benefit from the ball possession at the beginning of the game or at the beginning of a potential overtime.
Choosing or leaving the ball possession in the beginning of the game it’s part of any team tactics depending of the importance of the game. For example, world number one Dusan Bulut and his Serbian team, always prefer, in the important games to leave the first possession. That is because in case of overtime, where the first team that scores two points wins, it is crucial to have the first possession.
So, think about twice when you make your first choice, after the coin flip.
