Rule of the day: Check ball

With the first season of Abu Dhabi 3×3 Basketball Tour near the corner, we want to make you familiar with the international rules of this discipline. With the “Rule of the day” column we will take through each important regulation. Today’s rule: Check ball situation.

Possession of the ball given to either team following any dead ball situation shall start with a check-ball, i.e. an exchange of the ball (between the defensive and the offensive player) behind the arc at the top of the court.

The shot-clock will start as soon as the offensive player has the ball in his hands.

Check ball is the essence of the 3×3 basketball, showing that both teams are ready to play. It’s a sign of respect for the opponent, a gentlemen way to start the battle. So, be fair play and offer the ball with the simple bounce pass or chest pass, but in the same time be ready to defend from the moment your opponent has the ball.

Stay tuned for more rules in the days to come.
